What it is

What it is

Is this an answering service, or software?

Both, in the way that matters. A front desk answers as your business — from your hours, your prices and the answers you approved — and the system behind it books the appointment, texts you the message and keeps the record. You set it up with us once; it runs from then on.

Why do you call it a platform?

Because the receptionist is the entry point, not the boundary. Scheduling, call routing, after-hours rules, your calendar, a booking page of your own, marketing campaigns — each can be added one at a time, and your Command Center grows as they are. What your business needs beyond the list — your point-of-sale, your CRM, Microsoft 365, a specialized agent, North Star Chief of Staff™ — is built to fit after a conversation. You start with reception and build the business system you need.

Which businesses is it built for?

Any business where the phone is where the work starts and a missed call is lost revenue: plumbing, HVAC, electrical, restoration, roofing, contractors, property management, auto service, law firms, veterinary and senior care are the configurations we have written down. See Industries. If yours is not there, the same capabilities are configured for how your work arrives.

Where is North Star?

Phoenix, Arizona. We serve businesses across the United States. Call (480) 771-2118 — that number is answered by the same front desk we set up for clients.

The phone

The phone

Do I keep my phone number?

Yes. Forward the number you already have, or we issue a new local one and point it at the desk. Nothing changes for your customers; they just stop getting a machine.

What happens after hours?

The desk answers at nine at night the same as at nine in the morning. Your after-hours rules decide what is booked, what is taken as a message, and what is put straight through to a person.

Can a caller reach a real person?

Yes. The calls you want a person on — by what the caller asks for, or who they ask for — are put through to the number you name. The rest are handled, and every message reaches you by text with the caller's name, number and what they actually said.

What does it sound like?

A voice you choose at setup, speaking your words: your business name, your hours, your prices, the names that need saying right. The quickest way to know is to call (480) 771-2118.

What can it answer?

Everything you give it: hours, address, services, prices, the twenty questions people ask every week. Anything outside that, it takes as a message rather than guessing.

Bookings and customers

Bookings and customers

How do bookings work?

Callers are offered times on your hours and the booking lands on your calendar with a text to confirm. With online booking added, your customers book from a page of their own — the same page our own clients' customers use.

Can I cancel or change a booking?

Yes, from your client portal. A cancelled time goes straight back on your diary. We do not text the customer for you on a cancellation, so you will want to let them know.

Does it keep a customer record?

The desk knows a returning caller and what they rang about, and every call, message and booking is on your portal. If you already keep your customers in a CRM, we can connect it so nobody types a call into a second place — that is a custom connection, scoped with you before it is priced.

Setup

Setup

What does setup involve?

You complete your onboarding information online, in your own time: how calls reach us, your hours and after-hours rules, your services and prices, the questions you get asked, who gets which calls, your voice and greeting. It saves as you go. Then North Star verifies it, configures your system and places test calls before anything is live. You provide the information; we verify, configure, test, and take you live. Prefer to do it on a call? Book one.

How long does it take?

Most standard North Star setups go live within 1–3 business days after all required onboarding information is complete. The clock starts when your information is complete, not at checkout. If we need anything else we tell you exactly what, and the clock waits until we have it. Larger or custom setups — a second line with custom training, several locations, custom connections — start with an onboarding call and get their own timeline.

Can I see where my setup stands?

Yes. Your onboarding page shows where you are in plain words — from “Onboarding in progress” through “North Star configuring” and “Testing” to “Live” — with what is ready, and exactly what is still needed from you.

Is there anything to install?

No. Your customers call the number they always called. You get texts, and a portal you sign in to from your phone.

Pricing

Pricing

What does it cost?

Three starting configurations and a list of add-ons, every figure read from one list on the plans page — the same list our sales team quotes from and the same one a card is charged against. No price is typed into this site. Setup is a one-time fee shown beside each plan. Pay yearly and you get twelve months for about ten months' price; every yearly price ends in .99.

Can I start small and add later?

Yes. Starter is one number answered, every message taken and texted to you. Add capabilities when you are ready and take them off again when you are not; the price on the plans page changes as you go.

Is the Command Center extra?

No. Every plan includes it, from Starter up. You sign in on your phone and see what needs you, your week, your bookings, messages, calls and paperwork. What it shows grows with what you add; the Command Center itself is never a line on your bill.

What is priced after a conversation?

Connecting your point-of-sale, your CRM, Microsoft 365 or other software; a specialized agent for one department; a website build; and North Star Chief of Staff. Each is built to fit, so it is scoped before it is priced.

Can I buy online?

Yes. Build your configuration on the plans page, press “Start with this”, and pay by card through Stripe — monthly or yearly. Your card details never touch our servers. Then complete your onboarding information online. Once we have everything we need, North Star verifies and configures your system and gets you live within 24–72 hours. Or book a call first and we walk through it together.

Trust

Trust

Who can see my calls and messages?

You, and the people you allow to sign in to your portal. Every call is on your record so nothing rests on anyone's memory. We do not sell or share your customers' details.

Do you connect to the software I already use?

Where a connection exists and has been tested for you. Square, Stripe, Clover, Toast, Shopify and WooCommerce are the systems we look at first for point-of-sale; Microsoft 365 and your CRM are custom connections too — scoped with you, never a switch we claim to have; anything else is a custom connection we scope the same way. Every connection uses the system's own official door, and no one is handed a raw password to anything. Nothing is promised until it is built and tested.

Who is behind North Star?
